Pidgin english is a type of english that is created which is unique to the country in which it was born. It's so f**king irritating and shows what good english singaporeans have, or how effective have the MOE has cultivated the use of more chinese, less english. (that's the stereotypical views of foreigners towards singaporeans.
and yes, i'll have to say at least 60% of singaporean youngsters are simply imbecilic, incompetent in the English language area; be it oral or written. mostly refered to those chinese-speaking schools, chinese-speaking families) -
I told my tuition student that if he wanted to improve his English, then he has to start using proper English in his SMSes and MSN messages. His SMS lingo had made its way into his compositions, and I was sick and tired of having to penalise him for using 'tonite' instead of 'tonight', and '4got' instead of 'forgot'.
He went
as though I had just told him to catch an albino pigeon and feed it with yellow jaundiced worms.
Elsewhere, my neighbour once rebuked me for using proper sentences in our MSN conversations and that she can't stand the sight of my starting every sentence with a capital letter.
Needless to say, I told her that she only had herself to blame when she got a C6 for her GP. -

When I first got my hp, I started smsing in that way. Then I got sick of it and started using the dictionary function and it helped me get rid of the bad habit

It's just very sad that you have to be poor in English in order to be with the 'in' crowd.

Why are you painting a broad stroke over the chinese-speakers? We do not all type in that way. It is more of a problem with youngsters who find it cool. I merely find it irritating and spoilts a conversation.
