how you ever ask yourself this :
How come people be dying in training when the war hasn't begun? If the training itself is causing casulties, then will there be more 'self-failures' (ie. human deaths caused) when war starts itself? -

Every trainer is now saying that they followed the SOP and training standards wat. But what? Soldiers still mati. It's as if they put the blame on the safety standards and SOP!
There are people who put the soldier's life on the line and when the soldier dies, these people shrug and TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY.
That's the problem. NO ONE's JOB IS ON THE LINE WHEN THEY PUT THE SOLDIER'S LIFE ON THE LINE.
1,2,3,4,5,6,etc soldiers die, they still keep their jobs.
So why be so ON in NS for wat? Keep yourself alive and well is far more crucial than to worship and meet their silly safety standards and SOP!
SOF TSR totally different from normal soldier, ie infantry, guards or even commandos.Thats why they are aCUT ABOVE THE REST.SOF opens to everyone in the tri service,they dun force u becos being a trooper u risk your life during training. Some choose to be one becoz of money or even pride.To each its own, so we cant totally blame it on mindef. -

If LTA Lionel died as a normal sodier, yes i would say it may due to negligence.But he was from SOF and this is the true fact if u wish to become one.Pain and death are 2 major obstacles that we had to overcome.If u afraid either one, dun ever dream of becoming a SOF trooper. -

A Commando regular officer, Lieutenant (LTA) Lionel Lin Shi Guan, 24, died after encountering difficulties while undergoing training at the swimming pool in Hendon Camp this afternoon.
The training was conducted with an instructor assigned to each trainee. When LTA Lin encountered difficulties, the instructor assigned to him immediately passed him a float. LTA Lin was then instructed to swim to the pool edge.
While swimming towards the edge of the pool, LTA Lin went below the surface of the water. The instructor, who was next to him in the water, lifted him up and brought him to the pool edge where immediate medical attention was rendered. LTA Lin began vomiting and passed out. He was then rushed to the Hendon Medical Centre at 4.05pm where two doctors attempted to resuscitate him. LTA Lin was evacuated to Changi General Hospital at 4.10pm and arrived at 4.25pm. He was pronounced dead at 4.59pm.
MINDEF and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late LTA Lin, and will be assisting the family in their time of grief. MINDEF will be conducting an inquiry to ascertain the circumstances and the cause of death.
If a person is showing signs of difficulty swimming, why make him swim back? I thought it was basic lifeguard pratice to get the person to hold the float then tow him to safety? He's carrying gear, long 4 and wearing boots, how fast can he get back to the pool edge in his condition? No jettison drill? Or is he not allowed to (commando pride?)? -
I agree, that instructor who give him a float should be tied to the flag pole and shoot by the firing sqad !!! If the trainee in trouble, he should be pull out of the water immediately and access his condition before anything can carry on. they are not properly/well briefed to look for signs of people in trouble or impending trouble, like drowning etc...
Last time, the commanders are more experienced...if anything is to be blamed, blame the SAF for not teaching the instructors well.

I agree that we should at least hear the coroner's report first. Anyway, he's entitled to a full military send-off. to b militarily superior,theres an expense which can not b evaded
they wan ppl to serve the national,recurit full time soldier,nt pulling ppl in dispite their displeasure

Hello I'm new here.
SOF is Special Operations Force. -
yeah~ try having 1 commando dying everyday. say safety measures, lyk nvr work. bo liao man. make 1 guy die they oso shuang. still nid to sign contract, say cannot let out what trainings they undergone. bo liao sia.
somemore do pumping halfway , can scold ur parents and all tt, suffer mental pressure. lame ~` -
1. Too much water in the lungs, therefore not getting enough air.
2. Suffocated in his own vomit.
3. Virus infection that may have weakened his heart muscles.
4. Exertion in water caused muscles spasm, and heart seizure.
5. Something he ate earlier in the day.
6. Took energeiser drink with performancer enhancer.
7. Don't want to signal for help.
All speculation, OK, lets wait for investigations to be completed.
What ever the cause of death, condolences to the family of the Lta.
And respect for the soldier.
