I don't deny that.Originally posted by ^Delta^:When there is open warfare, all kinds of atrocities will be committed. Be it rape, for use as hostages or as human shields, robbery or just plain sadistic murder, u can be sure it will happen. The UN will deal will such problems too late as always. I have not once seen any example of a well-behaved invading country.

'cos the Chinese supported the war efforts against Japan ..
I don't think it will come to civilian combatant for Singapore. In the event of a war, the 360,000 strong SAF is the sole cornerstone for our defence. To survive or be under a new oppressive regime will all depend on the SAF's performance. To break the enemy down, or nice versa, we will never know.Originally posted by Icemoon:I don't deny that.
but if i get to choose .. i rather choose a civilian role than civilian combatant.

Malaysia:Chinese, Malay & Indian girls from Malaya (Malaysia) were
forced to be Comfort Ladies during WW2 Japanese Occupation. Malaysia's
Opposition party Democratic Action Party's Secretary General- Mr Lim
Guan Eng disclosed this during yesterday's press conference, According
to research done by fellow Cambridge University historians- Tim Harper
& Christopher Bably in their book: "The Forgotten Army-the British
Surrender 1941-1954). Photos of the 3 ethnic groups girls were shown
from their camps in Andaman Island, Indian Ocean during WW2 Japanese
Occupation. DAP reiterated their call for the Malaysian government to
stop her support for Japan's UN Security Council bid due to Japan's
inhuman treatment of Malaysian comfort ladies during WW2.

War is too unpredictable and we have seen technologically advanced forces being crippled by seemingly weak adversaries, or surrounded and isolated forces turning the tables on a numerically superior foe. Even a wounded kitten will turn vicious when wounded and cornered, so even though I feel there is an increasing morale problem in the SAF especially with the NS forces, many will still fight valiantly to defend their loved ones, indifferent from their usual grouses and complaints about Singapore. If not for your country, at least for your parents and siblings.

later enemy attack u but ur firing range too short cannot reach enemy cuz instead of researching U-238 shells u went to research other stuff, then later enemy attack all +2 damage cuz they upgrade but your attack is +0 damage. and the enemy the armor is 5, so your rifle 6 damage end up become 1 damage, cannot even hurt the enemy cuz they research the medics. later enemy research siege tanks and you die.Originally posted by SharkBoy87:We are also spending millions on military research. If these money were used for other research, won't it be better?
It's against international law for a country to mobilise underaged youth for war. I have read somewhere that in times of war, one of the first thing singapore will do is to disband NCC and NPCC so they will not be treated as combatants in case of capture. Can somemore provide more information on this?Originally posted by acwire_2125:HA!
My teacher told me, when in times of war, The army will be activated and those uniform groups like NCC and NPCC will also be used like those of the German Youth. WEll, they assume the role of those anti-aircraft and all those. DUn worry, when there is a war, the government will ask for volunteers too.

read my above postOriginally posted by SharkBoy87:Why this thread becomes a history lesson thread?
I noticed all the examples given here are on World War 2, but that's like donkey years ago! Policeman still wear shorts...
But in the recent years, is there any example that SAF proved it's worth? Don't talk about peacekeeping mission, humanitarian work, or street patrol for an enemy we cannot see.
Is there proof that the SAF actually keep Dr M out? Or any incident that they chase aggressor away or keep them away?
The Kris PC has been going near Pedra Branca, has the presense of the Navy kept them at bay? IMO,Perhaps not... It's just a matter of them wanting to capture Pedra Branca anot.
perharps u might wanna do more research or ask ur papa.. i rememebered there was one incident during the 70s(if not wrong) where the indonesia threatened to blow up our water pipes or something like tat.. couldnt remember much of the details but my dad was one of those activated n he said the situation was very very tense.. everyone was prepared for war..Originally posted by SharkBoy87:Why this thread becomes a history lesson thread?

How much is enough? When we all can sleep well at night and not worrying someone kick down our front door and invade our home.Originally posted by dragg:i agree with everyone that we need to spend on defence.
but how much is enough? are we overspending?
frankly i have a feeling that the kind of weapons we buy are mostly to elevate our status. nothing to do with the real defence.
If we have an atomic bomb or two, that's probably enoughOriginally posted by mark_docent:How much is enough? When we all can sleep well at night and not worrying someone kick down our front door and invade our home.
Are we overspending? Its depend. If you are living in 2 room run down HDB with only a mattress and a few clothers in your home, I think a very very cheap plastic front door will be enought. But if you are a millionaire, I suggest you to invest in a damn good front door and security system.
Whether the weapons such as F16 or Apache will do any good to defense Singapore or not, it yet to be seen but at least I can sleep well at night knowing that those weapons/machines are available when we need it.
You do the math.
I mean why the Malays never KPKB?Originally posted by dork3d:It was omitted from our Historian records, but records are found in the Imperial Archives...
eh this is like argueing with a brick wall. His mindset is that we shouldn't have a defence at all. No matter how you try to convince him, he will just filter it out. So might as well let him be. Cheah, make my blood pressure rise for nothing.Originally posted by Texcoco II:read my above post![]()
