Alright I admit I was wrong in saying "noob" and "stupid".Originally posted by laurence82:Also making me puke blood. I already said the topic so far has no presented a case for misconception from the start. Thats why I said, unless you xin zhong you gui, is there a need to harp on it? Why you wanna keep emphasising it?
Ok, unlike you, I will admit my bad on the pollution part, but I am more interested in whether you do receive angpows during CNY, since you do not like to have others have misconceptions about Buddhism and folk practice.
But then nothing will make me move from my position that you just made insinuations against somebody's else beliefs and its also very nice, a Buddhist calling me an idiot and losing his temper.![]()
NopeOriginally posted by Cenarious:Brownie didn't know whether this burning thing was from taoism or buddhism.
hello. not that i duno.Originally posted by Cenarious:Brownie didn't know whether this burning thing was from taoism or buddhism.
That only?Originally posted by Cenarious:Alright I admit I was wrong in saying "noob" and "stupid".
Yes, I posted first. Does it mean that if I don't post then she will automatically know it isnt buddhism? Not to mention the whole lot of people reading the thread without posting.Originally posted by laurence82:Nope
You posted first
Pre emptive strike?
What else?Originally posted by laurence82:That only?
Not that buddhists are not supposed to burn paper. Buddhists can burn paper. But to think it as coming from Buddhism is wrong.Originally posted by laurence82:Its not
Like I said, burning offerings are folk practices, CNY is a folk tradtion
and since you said Buddhists are not supposed to burn paper, are you supposed to receive ang pows?
i could drone on about material wealth, since you like to harp on remembering people in the heart not through physical ritual
So what say you?
what talking you?Originally posted by Cenarious:Yes, I posted first. Does it mean that if I don't post then she will automatically know it isnt buddhism? Not to mention the whole lot of people reading the thread without posting.
Strangely, I said it wasnt a issue from the start to warrant such statement, and now you change tack and talk about pre-emptive moves.Originally posted by Cenarious:Yes, I posted first. Originally posted by Cenarious:why do dead people need to be paid respects u remember them in your heart not do stupid rituals
were u clarifying in the first place?Originally posted by Cenarious:So why are you guys so angry that im clarifying a fact that some ppl might not know?

Originally posted by Cenarious:not intolerant but just to make it clear that buddhism is not associated with this kinda things
some kid out there commit a crime and he says u r his mastermind would u keep quiet?
a) For overemphasising the point when it doesnt warrant such big attentionOriginally posted by Cenarious:What else?
"pre-emptive move" was something you suggested first. Quit shifting positions and pushing all the blame on me.
Strangely, I said it wasnt a issue from the start to warrant such statement, and now you change tack and talk about pre-emptive moves.
Your insinuations below, a correction of beliefs?
I see that you cannot differentiate "coming from a teaching of buddhism" and "being buddhist but at the same time burning paper"Originally posted by laurence82:Playing around with me arent you?
You told bbb its a stupid ritual, now you are saying 'not that buddhists are not supposed to burn paper' and yak on about origins, and from what i saw, you said Buddhism is not associated with these things. Make up your mind.
Nope againOriginally posted by Cenarious:"pre-emptive move" was something you suggested first. Quit shifting positions and pushing all the blame on me.
That line below was said by me because brownie asked me "so dead people dont need to be respected?". THis she means that only by doing rituals and burning paper can the dead be respected. Therefore I answer her with "u remember and respect the dead in your heart and not do *stupid* rituals. It is in my opinion that these rituals are stupid, because it pollutes the environment and does nothing. I also have already apologised for saying "stupid".
Before I said stupid I said that this gives people the wrong conception of Buddhism.Originally posted by browniebaobao:were u clarifying in the first place?
u kept saying it's stupid blah blah..
u called it clarifying?
I see you are trying to play around with wordsOriginally posted by Cenarious:I see that you cannot differentiate "coming from a teaching of buddhism" and "being buddhist but at the same time burning paper"
I posted just in case some people have the misconception. And this "in case" is very huge, seeing that so many singaporeans take the journey to the west as buddhist canon.Originally posted by laurence82:Nope again
You posted such things before bbb posted her uncertainty, so thats why I quoted you.
So if you said its to correct a misconception, and nobody before you had posted anything on it, so what is it? Add post count?
You really cannot tell the difference?Originally posted by laurence82:I see you are trying to play around with words
Its like saying practitioners of Buddhism aint Buddhists![]()
In case is the same as pre-emptive actionOriginally posted by Cenarious:I posted just in case some people have the misconception. And this "in case" is very huge, seeing that so many singaporeans take the journey to the west as buddhist canon.
a) I only kept going on because you kept talking back.Originally posted by laurence82:a) For overemphasising the point when it doesnt warrant such big attention
b) For making insinuating remarks about other people's beliefs, for eg, calling it a stupid ritual
c) Lastly, do you receive angpows during CNY?
And so I asked what wrong idea of buddhism are u referring to.Originally posted by Cenarious:Before I said stupid I said that this gives people the wrong conception of Buddhism.
