The thing is flawed right from the start. You willing to abolish woman's charter and all that what not, then will woman be equal to men. Don't kpkb about us whining or whatever when you haven't earned it yet. There are many female friends of mine whom really deserve my respect because what they do, they put in the same if not more effort then me.

simple solution, ditch the galfriend, get a better one in Uni, where they are younger, more in tune with what you are going thru, and then you can start on equal footing.
As for the old galfriend, let her rot. Let them be so full of themselves that their only hope will be to own a service apartment, hope for some donor sperms, or hug their dogs to sleep each night. -
Many male friends of mine had dumped by their galfriends.. simple because they dun have own house, a car, no 5C.. One of my friends even worse... he open a fishball mee stall.. he worked so hard for his marriage.. in the end, a month before their wedding... his girlfriend went away with another man.. reason is "He got a car and credit card and he spent too much time on his job" I was like "Wtf" dun these men work so hard for their marriage and deserve to be respect?? That is why many others like me have left this little red dot to make sure our children have a headstart in life...look at it this way....I served NS and I did not complain even though its tough and I managed to find a very good gf...
In fact NS is good for character building but I must stress that it is NOT THE ONLY WAY to build a strong character.
Bottomline is we have to think about our own future generations and give them that little bit of headstart minus NS. Sure life is tough overseas but the sooner they get into the working world the better as it builds character too...Solution..MIGRATE -

Hmmm.. i dun think all yr suggestions are very feasible.
My CPF after leaving the army is about 8 k plus.. cause i started work very young so got CPF contribution alot.. I and my wife right after my NS bought a house using our CPF savings about 25k. My wife wait for me thru out my NS.
Guys do get pay increases faster and anyway after getting out of NS my pay is higher than my wife with the same level of qualification.
I believe it is just about what kind of gal you met. If she is willing to slog with you and wait for better future with you then you had make a right choice.

but, not all girls are like the one you mention in your friend's case
from the girl you mentioned in your friend's case, it seems initially she's willing to be with him because he is a hawker (some hawkers are high earners). By opting out of marriage at last min, this shows she does not love your friend at all, and is really materialistic
