oh.. so i guess it's the more the merrier?Originally posted by FightinForLove:Grade point average.. in poly every subject would make up certain points.. for example my subject biomedical equipment has an GPA of 5 points, 2 hours of lab, 2 hours of tutorial and 1 hour of lectures every week. getting a grade D or pass in the subject would mean i get around 2 points avg.. if a distinction, its would be a full 5 points..
so did u go to poly? care to share more?Originally posted by finoq:I have no idea...

Then after that I returned to JC
You in which year?Originally posted by FightinForLove:yea.. i only have a grand GPA of only around 2.4 out of 5... utterly sucks.. and i forgot the calculation of the grand GPA.. so maybe someone else help u if u wanna know on the grand GPA..
there's a part i dun understand. Top 5% of the cohort gets Diploma with Merit or isit the top 5% who gets the Diploma with merit that are guranteed places in uni?Originally posted by 798:but one thing u have to be prepared if u choosing poly,
- poly is slacking comparing to jc, alot of students tend to skip lectures n tutorials thus they dun do well in exam, in the end they either repeated modules or dropped out.
- if u do well in ur 1st year, be prepare for a greater challenge in second year, cos this is where the malaysians n jc students(graduated from JC) stepped in by direct entries, u will face alot of tough competition, i used to be in a class where everyone scored full marks for mathematic tests. these foreigners are really strong in their foundation in maths.
- Top 5% of students who get Diploma wif Merit are guarantee for uni entries, last time foreigners must be top 5% to be eligible to qualify cos if not they have to serve 3 years bond. nowadays, governments are abolished these rules, so next time round, the locals wif average Bs will not get a chance anymore.
okie. thanks for the advise. So which poly for Applied food science? And which for a course such as Resort management such as F&B, leisure?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Those who are considering life sciences in the polytechnics should do so, very very carefully. Choose the correct school also. Different polytechnics have different niches in life sciences.
At NYP, we don't study plants at all. If you want to study agrotechnology, you have to go to SP. I'm not sure about else where.
No matter where you go, you must work very very hard if you want to go to the local university. The first year in poly is especially critical. Don't play too much, don't join too many CCAs.
For Hospitality and Tourism Management, go to TP. Be prepared for the interview. O level results have to be very good.Originally posted by InV-:okie. thanks for the advise. So which poly for Applied food science? And which for a course such as Resort management such as F&B, leisure?
top 5% are guarante of choosing courses they desired in local uni. but it will be better to choose same course as ur diploma as it is direct entries to 2nd yearOriginally posted by InV-:there's a part i dun understand. year 3 sem 2 lo.. electives stage.. boring like hell ..Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:You in which year?
I had 2.4 at the end of year 2. After my year 3 first semester I had 2.6. Trying to raise that now.
Even if I get all As, can only reach 3.0.
=(

as above. I'm currently attending JC for first 3 months. Today's the first day, and it already seems to me that i'm making the wrong choice by going to college. I've made up in my mind my future job prospects but it seems irrelevent to be in college studying(or mugging) for subjects that are not useful(for now it seems) for my future.
I would also like to go to a U, but it seems harder for poly students to enter. For such a scenario, is it better to mug hard for 2 more years just to enter the U, or go for poly choosing the course that is required for my future job and pray hard that i'll be able to enter the U after my poly?
I agree with what you said. But the thing i'm worried about is not being able to get into uni with poor A' lvl results, or not being able to get into my desired course in uni. So maybe getting into poly and take up what i'm interested in may be a better choice? or is it?Originally posted by seanliew:Like what you said the future you see now, those subjects may seems useless, but who can be 100% sure of their future. Take it from me, i'm a poly grad. Why waste 3 years when u can advance after 2 years of JC?
i tell u tis from my experience... i damn regret to step in uni in the 1st place, where i can actually get into workforce wif my DWM n get job experience n income.Originally posted by InV-:I agree with what you said. But no one can be sure of the future..
so somehow.. i guess it's just best to follow your interest at such a time? for passion is a powerful spring.. haha!Originally posted by 798:i tell u tis from my experience... i damn regret to step in uni in the 1st place, where i can actually get into workforce wif my DWM n get job experience n income.
sometime when u studying for the sake of studies, u will have doubt whether u choosing a correct path or not.
life is not as smooth as u think it will be.
