go Uni after poly, how they choose who can go Uni?

a cousin of mine quite determined to get into local U (he's a poly grad)
not sure about his grades...but he didnt pass o level english even after 2nd attempt. Is that one of the criteria?
if it is...i'd better ask him to stop wasting time applying liao

Very simple. If you score well you get in, if not LL.
Applies for Jc or Poly. Of course more people from Jc go in bcoz that is what Jc is for anyway. Depends on course too. -

anyway.. just apply, but impt.. go for the O level english again.. at least get a C6 lor.. oral very impt.. if he can do well in oral.. think no prob in passing.. -

Go for SMU is easier to get in... I have friend with GPA 2.9 but still end up in uni.... However want short cut got AUSTralia.... Some u take 2 yrs get hons and additional yrs to get master. Like this i won't get in as my o level is 25 pts... I going US study....

Can someone get admitted a local poly without passing "O" Level English?
I will be very surprise if there is a undergrad from a loca Uni which cannot even pass "O" level english. -
nowadays if you have some sort of special talents the school will also take you in.. Do you still need to take SAT these days?
Special talents (I mean leadership quality or other stuff)
Chairman for student union, got his own business outside, very famous in Singapore, you are smart in business planning. A good independent trader or what so ever -

during my last year in poly, i quickly apply for uni place. i secured a place in uni even b4 a graduated. amazing.
all those talk must get good cca track record, all these are nonsense.
my gpa was 3.6+. naturally, when u enter the interview room , bear in mind u have won 50% of the battle. the remainder 50% is how well u perform during the interview. u screw ur interview, u screw ur chances into the uni.
i did well in the interview , and ntu and smu offered me places. smu is damn difficult, they really GRILLED me until i was speechless. but u must know how 2 out-talk them, and make sure ur answers do not have any loopholes for them to "attack". nus also offered me a place, but no interview was given.
lastly, i wish u the best of luck in getting the uni u want !!!

i heard that it is 10% of cohort
but how is "10% of cohort" decided?
is it:
top 10% in every poly,
OR
top 10% nationally? as in better poly get high percentage of allowing ppl coming in. while louya pok poly , lesser ppl can go. so different poly get a different percentage quota
if the 1st method is the case, then i can purposely choose a poly where i know there are a lot of slackers who dont study well and then easier to contract and get top 10%. typically a poly with high cut off point
pls dont talk about going to JC case. it's not for me.

Actually I heard that markers just randomly pick a few papers from the students and mark. And if ur English is poor and he unlikely pick ur paper, u r doom; else u can escape scot-free. -

That one you tell the schools... so far, reading through their rules say that D is conditional pass.
