Anyway, what aloof was trying to bring to our attention was why the need to buy such expensive electronic stuffs? Also where the monk get the money? Donation? For broadcasting of chanting sutras in the temple? But was it really necessary to spend that kind of wasteful money assuming that money was from the donation? And IF really a necessity for the temple why not get those donors to get it for the temple instead of the monk going to get it himself? Weren't monks supposedly to be 'si da jie kong'? IPOD is a branded electronic item. The monk should not be buying branded stuffs when their teaching was to live as simply and hassle free as possible.
And that brought us to the question of buying it as presents for families or even the orphanage. Why the need for such indulgence? Sure, the families , friends or the orhphange live in a modern world but wouldn't it be more worthy of the monk by imparting/impounding his teaching/the sutras to his families or friends? That would be more beneficial to them and also to himself since he was helping others to recognize their true self and also helping them to accumulate good karma not to mention for himself as well?
Alternatively the monk was just a temporary monk, which he was trying to spend his days in the temple to 'huan yuen' which roughly meant to pay back his 'debt' which he had accumulated in his past lives. So, in actuality he wasn't a true monk!
Well, I hoped that cleared up all the commotions?

This monk was purchasing 5 ipod accesories and each were abt a speaker box size. Might amount to a few hundred dollars.
No offense to the religion involved but are monks justified to acts like this?

Monks, pastors and so on. So what do u think of pastors who buy branded stuff for themselves and wives? So how do you explain? U are rather bias, attack monks only what about pastors or others from other religions?Originally posted by aloof_guy:Isn't the purpose of being a monk is to attain enlightment? That means mediating and not letting yourself get distracted. Monks rely on donations and they should be thrifty when using it.
Buying 5 boxes of Ipod accessories is not justified. Public transport is efficient in our country and i see no need to taking a taxi.
Like i said, pastors and monks are of different beliefs. Pastors are not restricted to celibracy unlike monks. They tend to have children and are paid reasonably hence having the purchasing power to buy items such as ipods and a car.Originally posted by rane:Ahem . . . . no comments!! I know of pastor who buys branded goods, too. Some of the pastors also wear and own branded stuff.
I agree with you Manager. May be it is a make up story that they go Hotel 81. TS is bias against monk so started this thread.Originally posted by Manager433:Those monks u saw going to Hotel 81, buy 4D, hanging around coffeeshops asking for donations ( they onli want hard cash ) are all fake. Or u can ask the monk ( CEO of Ren Ci hospital ). He can give u more info.
don't talk nuisance to defend yourself lah!Originally posted by aloof_guy:haha manager. you stated that ppl are flaming monks and your next sentence you flame the christian faith.
So if you want the mods to close this thread, can they ban you as well?
Priests and monks are a totally different thing. Monks are generally more "humble".. (note the inverted commas) and you can tell by the religious clothing they wear. Im very sure being thrifty is in the monks codes or whatever. Monks in certain places in china rely on ppl giving them food in order to survive. Monks in singapore, can afford food and on top of the surplus donations, maybe buy ipod. ipodS.
I once question why monks bought this and that and someone told me they need essentials to live, too! Pastors, hey they need to live by example that they don't indulge in materialism, if they indulge in branded stuff then the congregation will follow suit. Their god has set very high standards, so I think pastors should not pamper wives or whatever by buying branded stuff too.Originally posted by aloof_guy:Like i said, pastors and monks are of different beliefs. Monks on the other hand, live in the temple and has his whole life dedicate to their religion. Although we life in an IT age, religion does not change.
How can i be bias against monks? This is a stated fact that some of them are spend-thrift and i want to know how these acts are justified?Originally posted by rane:don't talk nuisance to defend yourself lah!![]()
Pls ask if FIFI wants to ban me or not.Originally posted by aloof_guy:haha manager. you stated that ppl are flaming monks and your next sentence you flame the christian faith.

why u look at monks only huh what about pastors, priests and others from other religions? Don't forget that priest from St theresa church charged OK!!!! So?! The best is u go look for the shi fu from Ren Ci OK? He is in a very good position to talk to you.Originally posted by aloof_guy:How can i be bias against monks? If a government inspector is sent to make things transparent, who knows what we might uncover?
I think you misinterpreted me. Pastors do not indulge in branded stuff but on certain occasions, they are not restricted to purchase one eg. Ipod for their kids. Yes christianity has taught us not to be materialistic in the superficial objects in this world but do pastors lust for such objects?Originally posted by rane:I once question why monks bought this and that and someone told me they need essentials to live, too! Yes i admit that is wrong and is a shame to christians. That is not justified and actions are currently being taken against him. Afterall, no one is perfect in this world except God.Originally posted by rane:why u look at monks only huh what about pastors, priests and others from other religions? So bingo, I am right that you are a christian. So this explains why you are bias against monks!!!! I don't think Christianity teach one to be bias against one another. love your enemy says Jesus, ha ha ha!!!! And christianity also teaches christians, pastors not to judge, so ???? how sure are you that no pastors lust for such materialism? how you explain that pastor who buys branded goods to pamper his wife? If christianity teaches christians not to be materialistic all the more the pastor should not buy branded stuff just to pamper the wife. Do not judge or you will be judged that is what the bible says, so practise it christian! if you christians want to win souls then practise what your bible teaches you lah!Originally posted by aloof_guy:I think you misinterpreted me. The christian faith does not forbid living in luxury if you give your time to god and follow the commandments. However, does Buddism allow monks to do such acts?
