thats true..she should be able to get into most courses in ntu n nus, except for probably chem engineering, law, accountacy, etc....Originally posted by rmyfrm:I bet you she applied for courses like engineering, accountancy etc.
ABE can easily get a place in any of the unis, naturally, with limits of course selection.
hi matleep.. I believe C and E is a vast difference.. Moreover, the daughter got a C for GP, not an A.. So unless her daughter got an A, perhaps, she haf sum basis for complain..Originally posted by matleep:First I believe she had use her son as an example because she believes that the daughter achieve a similar grade as her son. ABC. She believes her daughter's GP result should be taken into consideration and since they had the same result, her daughter should be able to admit into university. Therefore, I feel that you guys are pouring criticism on her without understanding from her point of view.
Maths paper hard anot depend on whether you know how to apply and use the formula anot.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Nothing wrong, just that her mum is not happy.
And this is not the first time such things happened to dragon babies.
PSLE - Maths paper too hard.
O Levels Biology - Wrong facts given, students waste time figuring out what's wrong, complain to teacher, teacher says it's correct (that one is laughable, I wonder if our teachers return their knowledge to their teachers)
Now, uni entrance.
It's already too common until it isn't wrong.
ABC - high avgOriginally posted by aiglosicicle:A, B, E is actually very bad compared to the kind of grades a'level students produce now. the mum has a problem with her ego.
That's the problem. Whoever said exam smart muggers are more talented just because they have proven they can regurgitate on command?Originally posted by aiglosicicle:A, B, E is actually very bad compared to the kind of grades a'level students produce now. the mum has a problem with her ego.
Please ignore this sense-less bastard cos he totally neglected the fact that the auntie's son might have gotten 2nd upper hons which is aint that easy to get... esp in fassOriginally posted by yellowtofuwarrior:Auntie....your daughter's grades really suck. She either didnt put in the effort or she is naturally stupid but with a big ego like you. She being a Dragon baby should have realised long ago that competition is tough, not to mention Singapore's Education system is stringent.
Auntie. Your son honestly speaking ain't too bright either. With a second class honours in arts and social sciences, do you really think he'll get far in life? Ok maybe he's good in other things or charismatic, but with that kind of grades he can't go far.
Auntie. Sorry to burst your bubble, but your kids are dumb. Please wake up and get a reality check ok?
Take care Auntie : )
dats wat i was thinking? one big fat E screaming out loud still good ah? somemore GP only C???Originally posted by motoway:E is the Problem.. A and B is no problem.. But a C for GP? A B E C? GOOD MEH?
Obviously you did not read the post just above yours.Originally posted by matleep:I think you guys are assuming that the daughter applied for those good course such as law and medicine which requires good grades. The actual fact may be that she applied for perhaps courses like arts which has lower requirements and yet got rejected despite scoring ABE. This prompted her mother to write in to the papers.
And before we throw criticism at the mother, we should understand her point of view.
First I believe she had use her son as an example because she believes that the daughter achieve a similar grade as her son. ABC. She believes her daughter's GP result should be taken into consideration and since they had the same result, her daughter should be able to admit into university. Therefore, I feel that you guys are pouring criticism on her without understanding from her point of view.
Secondly, did the university raise their requirements due to the larger number of applicants such that an ABE is now unable to gain admission to the university? If that is so, then she has a case for complaint as her daughter is eligible for studies but yet unable to do so due to logistic issue. Imagine the anguish that one would feel when he is denied of undertaking a project despite knowing that he has the capability to do so. Moreover, this is a social problem where we are unable to provide education to our youth even though they had the capability to achieve higher education.
Thirdly, I believe the mother is thinking about NUI or NUC (university of india and university of china). Our local university had quite a number of foreign students who came here on MOE scholarship. That is, Singapore sponsoring them part of or their full tertiary education in Singapore. This is an expense of local students who are unable to gain admission to university despite their ability to do so. If local university are not taking in local students, then who will?
Honestly, I am surprised to see so much criticism against the mother. I am waiting for the response from our universities and I want to learn the reasons for her rejection. Because it would be a sad day if her daughter was rejected due to limited places and yet our universities are taking in foreign students!
