Yah I understand... But from what I see every morning at Raffles Place, everyone is just clogging up the escalator just to let a few cool souls to slowly stroll up the right side.Originally posted by udontknowme:hahahaaaaa
that's when those who dont want to wait walk up the right side lor
alamak, if the left side is cloaked, then automatically move to the right and walk down/up so that you wont cloak the other side also.Originally posted by freakass:Actually, people do keep to their left on the escalators during the morning... cityhall and raffles place.... in the evening, there will be slight chaos becos everyone is trying to rush home....
BUT THEN AGAIN, I KNOW THAT KEEPING TO YOUR LEFT IS BASIC COURTESY. HOWEVER, SOMETIMES EVERYONE JUST CLOGS UP AT THE ESCALATOR AREA JUST TO TAKE TURNS TO "BOARD" THE LEFT SIDE AND IN THE END, THIS CAUSES MORE DELAY ACTUALLY.
IMAGINE A SCENE WHERE EVERYONE IS CLOGGING UP THE ESCALATOR AREA WAITING TO "BOARD" THE LEFT SIDE AND THE RIGHT SIDE IS EMPTY. MIGHT AS WELL CONSTRUCT THE ESCALATOR WITH ONE LANE.
dat's a lame excuse. why would everyone want to stand on the left side n be a lazy bum? legs r meant for walking, not for resting on the escalator!Originally posted by freakass:Actually, people do keep to their left on the escalators during the morning... cityhall and raffles place.... in the evening, there will be slight chaos becos everyone is trying to rush home....

I notice too that the escalators move more people faster with two abrea5t when there is a surge of people.Originally posted by freakass:Actually, people do keep to their left on the escalators during the morning... cityhall and raffles place.... in the evening, there will be slight chaos becos everyone is trying to rush home....

Go take a look at Raffles Place MRT station early in the morning about 7-8am and you will know what most people use their legs for.Originally posted by 798:dat's a lame excuse. why would everyone want to stand on the left side n be a lazy bum? legs r meant for walking, not for resting on the escalator!
if everyone will move along the right lane. the pace of movement will definitely improve over time.
Who would do that? The moment they shift to the right side, they would be forced to walk up the steps.Originally posted by hohaha:alamak, if the left side is cloaked, then automatically move to the right and walk down/up so that you wont cloak the other side also.

When the traffic is sparse, using only half of the escalator is no problem.
Also to adopt the stand left rule in a tropical country is to ape the west. In temperate countries, people move briskly to beat the cold. There are as many people who stand as there are people who move on escalators. Therefore they have the stand on the left rule.
In tropical Singapore, people go the easy way, like why run, when you can walk, why walk when you can ride.
Those who are late and those who like to rush, are very few indeed. And lo ! they expect the greater portion of the population to stand aside for them!
Our media are staffed with people who are schooled in the west, and they supported the call for the stand right rule with their biasness. I noticed they printed a number of letters for, before they print one letter against. The stand left rule was then introduced on a trial basis, and then left as it is. This is one rule that was introduced without taking the local context into consideration. Aptly it is aping the west.
Our MRT system is used NATION WIDE, not only in the CITY, by people of all walks of life, for all purposes, all through the operation hours. Not mainly for commuting to and fro from work. Therefore we will see aunties, grannies, ah peks, students, couples, etc.
Tsk Tsk, and the few idiots who are late and kancheong want all others to stand aside for them.
Furthermore most of the escalators are not that long anyway.
So what if you missed a train by seconds. Take the next train.
But no, they start thinking "If only..." and begin to curse and swear at others. Who is the idiot now?
If you missed a train by a minute, you would guai guai take the next train.
The diff is only in your mentality.
