fyi, during the period of ww2, japanese religion dictated that the emperor was God (or to that extent). and thus the decree of the emperor to take over the world was a decree from God and any other person on earth that did not listen to the emperor of japan (ie God), does not deserve to live and thus this would mean that onli japanese were under God and the rest of the world shld just die.Originally posted by mhcampboy:They got a "mandate from heaven" to go ahead with wars....

You must be one of the luckier ones who doesn't have relatives (parents and/or grandparents) who lived through the hardships of WWII. Most of us here do. Is it just an objective view that you have when you hear such stories or view such exhibits in a museum?
Do you feel it's right for the Japan education system to whitewash their own history of the second world war? I will certainly feel sad if our younger generation feels that we can't learn anything from the horror of wars or history. History does repeat itself.

since the U.S armies r so strong n the japanese soldiers r at losing end. the U.S armies should go one-on-one wif them instead since they got more number.
the japanese r cruel to our fore-parents by brutal killings and pow, we all cannot deny dat. but wat the americans do by planting 2 bombs on the country were not much difference comparing to japanese's sin. until now the two states of japan cannot recover from the impact. -
The bomb ended the war and it was a good thing,If there is a need to question then one would ask if the second bomb was necessary.Some might even argue that the two bombs cant make up for the atrocities commited by the Imperial army.The main idea was to end that war and one bomb would have have done it.

So instead, the first A-bomb was dropped. And since they didn't bulge, a second one as well. And perhaps, it would have continued till no japanese soil was left untouched. But thankfully it didn't come to that.
There was speculation that perhaps the A-bomb was not meant for japan but germany. Just that the war it europe ended sooner than expected. Perhaps that was the start of america flexing its mighty muscles.
What do you mean the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima couldn't recover from the impact? The cities now are bustling japanese cities. No different from any japanese city in japan... except for the fact that, they have left certain part as memorial. While each year the cities have remembrance to those who died from bombs, I hope it is a remembrance of those who have died needlessly from the war on both sides. NOT from the fact they were the innocent ones being the victims of the A-bomb.
It is a sad thing the two cities are the victims of nuclear explosion, and it has to bear that scar. Let's hope none other has to face such grim act. -

I think most of us here are fortunate enough not to have to go through the turmoil of WWII. At most we only hear of stories from parents or grandparents. Indeed the generation who went thru the japanese occupation do not exhibit hatredness , but forgiveness and bitterness... we'll never know. Most of it are brought to the grave. So my two cents on dropping the a-bomb... yes, it was justified! Regrets? No. -
In all, i think that it is very much justified. But also a little ironic in some sense. The US wants to minimize loss of lives yet still land it right smack on a city. They really should have landed it on a remote land first. If Japan still dont surrender, then land it in the cities for mass destruction.

My late grandfather fought against the Japanese.
He didn't bear any grudges, and he said that all soldiers are taught to follow orders, just that some orders come from twisted leaders.
