Well, to set the record straight, tithing is also an obligation in Judaism (just like Zakat is an obligation in Islam), just that they subsume it under a more general (or specific?) principle called Tzedakah:Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:But I like the part where you said that they complain about Jews clinging on to the commandments while they are determined to cling on to tithing ...![]()

"Tzedakah" is the Hebrew word for the acts that we call "charity" in English: giving aid, assistance and money to the poor and needy or to other worthy causes. However, the nature of tzedakah is very different from the idea of charity. The word "charity" suggests benevolence and generosity, a magnanimous act by the wealthy and powerful for the benefit of the poor and needy. The word "tzedakah" is derived from the Hebrew root Tzadei-Dalet-Qof, meaning righteousness, justice or fairness. In Judaism, giving to the poor is not viewed as a generous, magnanimous act; it is simply an act of justice and righteousness, the performance of a duty, giving the poor their due.Note the parts in bold below:
Quotes from http://www.jewfaq.org/tzedakah.htm
According to Jewish law, we are required to give one-tenth of our income to the poor. This is generally interpreted as one-tenth of our net income after payment of taxes. Taxes themselves do not fulfill our obligation to give tzedakah, even though a significant portion of tax revenues in America and many other countries are used to provide for the poor and needy. Those who are dependent on public assistance or living on the edge of subsistence may give less, but must still give to the extent they are able; however, no person should give so much that he would become a public burden.
The obligation to perform tzedakah can be fulfilled by giving money to the poor, to health care institutions, to synagogues or to educational institutions. It can also be fulfilled by supporting your children beyond the age when you are legally required to, or supporting your parents in their old age. The obligation includes giving to both Jews and gentiles; contrary to popular belief, Jews do not just "take care of our own." Quite the contrary, a study reported in the Jewish Journal indicated that Jewish "mega-donors" (who give more than $10 million a year to charity) found that only 6% of their mega-dollars went to specifically Jewish causes.
Judaism acknowledges that many people who ask for charity have no genuine need. In fact, the Talmud suggests that this is a good thing: if all people who asked for charity were in genuine need, we would be subject to punishment (from G-d) for refusing anyone who asked. The existence of frauds diminishes our liability for failing to give to all who ask, because we have some legitimate basis for doubting the beggar's sincerity. It is permissible to investigate the legitimacy of a charity before donating to it.
Of course they won't.Originally posted by 4794:Something like that...but if u never give they also wont do anything
That is for tithing. For offerings, you will know where your money goes.Originally posted by 4794:To me i personally feel we don know how the church uses the money, maybe they use it for personal use or they use it to serve the poor
We all don know....
One thing for sure, when dooms day come,we all will know the truth

The Christians have bastardize it as giving it to God...instead of giving to the poor. Somehow when you give to the pastor, you are giving to God. How convenient. You cannot see God and you cannot give to God so let's all assume that giving to the pastor and the Church is giving to God.Originally posted by Icemoon:According to Jewish law, we are required to give one-tenth of our income to the poor. When i said much more worse than chc,i meant the church are more 'rock' and bigger than chc and chc is nothing compare to other mega church around the worldOriginally posted by Phaze:To respond to the poster who said that no one forces you to tithe:
Yes it's true. No one forces you. That would be illegal.
In fact, for first time visitors and non-members, your host will emphasize there's no need to contribute if you do not wish to and there's no need to feel pressured.
But as you get in deeper. The pressure grows. Sure no one is forcing you. But every cell group and every service, you keep hearing about how you should donate and how "god can only do great things in your life if you give great things to god." The implication here is that you have to prove your devotion to god through your contributions first before you will get the rewards that god promises. This includes material rewards.
You don't HAVE to contribute. But if you don't, maybe you're not as good a christian as the rest. That's the message that's driven home every week.
Also, during cell group, they regularly announce where they are on the contribution rankings. The cell group I attended was among the top 'producers' in their area.
To the person who said the US Megachurches are much worse than CHC. Er... not as bad also means not good right? Besides, the US megachurches have been around much longer. The fact that CHC promoted benny hinn is not a good sign at all.
You reminded me of a movie by Jim Carey, Bruce Almighty..Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:The Christians have bastardize it as giving it to God...instead of giving to the poor. Yes, you aren't forced to donate, but don't tell me there's no brain-washing involved. I have friends that went to CHC just once, and they say their brain-washing is simply amazing. And I am targetting CHC because of their acts and their arrogant flaunting of their wealth, same as with other big churches.Originally posted by 4794:about the rise and build program,if u can donate than u donate
Did they surround you with a knife and asked you to donate?
Or did they threaten you to donate?![]()
I am an ex chc member so i know what is going on
They don force people to donate
obviously u haven see my quote on what you said,go search for itOriginally posted by alleggerita:And the thing that disturbs me the most is the different rankings of Pastors or Monks in Places of Worship. Why the heck do they need rankings? Are they running a company which needs a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, CEOs and Managers?
That's why I say Places of Worship are so commercialised nowadays. Note I said "PLACES OF WORSHIP", in case 4794 thinks I am picking on Christians and churches. I am not, I am saying ALL places of worship in general.
Did i say i believe ALL the donation go to helping other people?Originally posted by alleggerita:Yes, you aren't forced to donate, but don't tell me there's no brain-washing involved. And I think I have to repeat myself to you this ASSUMING person, I DO NOT pick on Christians, I just do not like people FROM CHC and the church CHC ITSELF.
And to think that you will believe every single cent from the donations will go to helping other people? Pure bullsh!t. If NOT A SINGLE CENT goes into the pockets of the pastors there, pigs can fly.
Sorry if I sound like I pick on Christians, because I don't. I just believe that when someone misuses your money, you shouldn't be so stupid to keep donating. This is just my principle and my 2 cents worth. That's all.
