But can only blame themselves for not wearing the vest. After rowing for so long, it very tiring. They are in another country, not familiar with the water situation. Should always wear it no matter what happen. From the news, you can see the current of the water is very strong and unstable.

Huh!, yo dude, even I noti noti ger also feel sad and pray for them, how come you have no feeling for such tragedy and instead condemn them further??? Be more compassionate ya.
well, for me, since i don't even know them, how can i feel sad?
if i'm their friend or related to them, yes, i will feel sad....but in my case??!!
if some random guy got killed in car accident on the road, will u all feel sad like now? most people don't even care.
however, though, i do feel sorry for the little boy who ask "how come kor-kor never come back?"
now, that's really sad.
next time ask the dragon-boaters don't be so kei-kiang!
dragon boat finish already so tired must wait for ship to fetch them back, not to ROW BACK THEMSELVES! i feel angry for their families.
also, how come nobody is taking the blame for suggesting the rowers row back? is it the captain suggest one???!!! -
there has been far too much speculation on the life vests. to set the records straight, life jackets are COMPULSORY for competitions in s'pore, but overseas, its out of our control, cos its not compulsory. this is from a very reliable source, cos i know some1 who is part of that team, but withdrew from the trip to cambodia. n trust me no words can describe his feelings now.
some coldblooded animals here who say dragon boaters want to act tough by rowing back on their own, den all i can say is u r not a sportsman urself, u wont know the feeling of accomplishing a feat like this n the energy flowing thru the sportsman. they jus completed a great race, so wats that xtra dist? its a form of celebration for them, although it did turn ut disastrous. this is an unfortunate accident that no 1 wants to happen. -

i think it doesn't really matter if you feel sad or not. i think sadness and sensitivity are 2 different issues, you may not feel sad because you don't know them. but it doesn't mean you can't be sensitive about it.Originally posted by Nikar2:(angel)

There is no cold-blooded animal here. Just that the safety message is put across bluntly. No matter how many times such accidents happened, people would soon forget. Dragon boat paddlers are among the fittest and are strong swimmers too, yet there are some who drowned.
Even the giant aircraft carriers are tossed like matchboxes in stormy seas.
The 17 who survived are fortunate to have hung on to something, not because they are more fit. There are suitable life vests for such events, like the flat, inflatable life vests stowed under the aircraftÂ’s seats. It does not hamper a rowerÂ’s performance.
Against the force of nature, we are at itÂ’s mercy. -

Bodies of dragon boat accident victims to be brought home Monday
SINGAPORE: The bodies of the five Singaporean rowers who died in a dragon boat accident in Cambodia will be brought home by a military plane on Monday evening.
The dead are 20-year old Chee Wei Cheng, 24-year old Jeremy Goh Tze Xiong, 31-year old Stephen Loh Soon Ann, 23-year old Reuben Kee En Rui and 27-year old Poh Boon San.
Their bodies were found on Sunday morning, two days after their dragon boat capsized in the Tonle Sap River in Phnom Penh during the annual Cambodia—ASEAN Traditional Boat Race.
Singapore Ambassador to Cambodia Tan Yee Woan said some family members of the five victims will also be on the plane.
As for the rest of the family members, they will be back on a SilkAir flight on Monday night.
The 17 members of the dragon boat team who were rescued in the accident would fly back on a commercial flight in the afternoon, together with the president of the Dragon Boat Association, Kwek Siew Jin.
At about 7.45am, en route to the airport, they stopped at the accident site to offer prayers. Some family members of the five victims were also there to perform rites. — CNA/ir -

#1: Where the **** are the life jackets? Safety more important or cool-factor more important? Safety more important or victory more important?!
By dying, these guys have totally wreck and saddended their families, which is totally uncalled for in the first place.
#2: After the dragon-boat race, the rowers are supposed to be super-tired, considering that dragon-boating is such an energy-draining strenuous sport.
Now these jesters want to row back, even when they are supposed to be driven back to shore by a ship?! Who suggested they rowed back?
Must be some alpha male in the group and all the other guys, wanting to appear masculine, agreed. In the end, Nature proved them wrong!
Not only have they caused so much sadness to their families and friends, but they've also wasted the precious resources of the Cambodians and SAF.

wat's the point of saying all those? there are always a millions reasons why things shouldn't happen...save all the condemnation to urself and let the friends/relatives/fellow dragonboaters bereave in peace. -
u know.when i see these kind of things it makes everything material seem secondary to our lives eh.just a split second,they are gone.everything they had in this world means nothing to them already.
everytime i think of my near-death encounter in taiwan as well i thank God im living another day to see the nxt sunrise and to see my parents. I hope this news makes everyone out there cherish every moment with your families and honour your parents as much as you can man.
for those who like to have suicide thoughts,these guys rather trade their time with yours.they want to live on but now its impossible. our youths treat their parents like shit nowadays as well and i hope this news might soften their hearts and appreciate their families.

I am just curious what bureacratic excuses will the Goverment agencies come up to justify and explain their side of the story. ONe thing for sure, they cannot blame the host country for neglience cz it will affect the Asean ties especially when the Asean Summit just ended. In the spirit of "Non-intervention in internal policies and politics" among Asean countries, SG may chOOse NOT to blame the Hosting country for slack safety rules.
I guess the surviving crew members should hold a press conference and speak up and dictate what went wrong. I expect their account to be honest and with honor.
They could probably address:
1) Their reason for not wearing the vest?
2) Whose decision was it to row the boats back?
3) What went wrong in their opinion. -
face it: if i were the team captain of the team and the people under my charge dies, i would be guilty the rest of my life, and i would give up dragon boating together.
