i would have ignored them.i do not believe that there are such poor and destitute ppl in singapore.should not the husband have anticipated that problems would arise in his absence!?

hmm. I didnt see the infant. What do you expect the husband to do it he's just earning enough to make end meet? Put a few extra hundreds at home (which he can't afford) for emergency expenses? -

When they are really poor , they only want food
When child is sick , they just need medicine
If they want $$$ , the something is wrong ,
If you break your arm , will you want ambulance immediately or you want to borrow enough money just to make sure you are able to pay up
Bring them to hospital , or buy them food , if they refuse , then it $$ they want.
If they acept your help , they would rather want the ambulance than paper money
And im sure local clinic some of the doctor are kind enough to give lesser medication burden , unless they are those sort of business doctor then i got nothing to say.
It possible coz i seen poor old man see doctor , really no money type , the doctor give him free consultant and medication , and encourage him to come back for checkup. This is what i call a doctor.
Remember:
When someone is in distress , they will need help , much more than $$
They will worry about the money in later stage -
if it was an emergency, ambulance is free of charge.
if its not an emergency, u don't dial 995, but 1777. that one must pay, but i don't think its alot of money -

Maybe there really are kind doctor who are willing to give free consultation and medication to the poor, but unfortunately not many and getting less and less.
For example, if you are a hawker, and a beggar come to you and ask for food (not money), will you give? You will probably come up with other excuses for not doing so, right? -

Always offer service instead of money.
Call the ambulance yourself when the lady wants money for transport.
Never ever give money because you'll not know what the money is going to be used for. -
