$500 allowance.. tsk tsk. thats almost twice my allowance!
agnes is the reporter's little sister's friend in NIE.
the reporter purposely didnt state she was from NIE because this way, it would defeat having the report as agnes would be "having an income". so she is stated as to be studying in NTU.
i know the little sister personally.
and i shall save my comments for myself.
It's like the headline once:
Singaporeans generally favour price increases. ![]()

they are the group of people most easily to become out of touch with reality, not understanding the hardship ordinary people have to go through, living in a sheltered environment, that only exist when their parents are alive and working.
i think that they may never be financially independent in the real work, earning a "real-world" wage of $2-4k /mnth with that kind of spending habits, unless they are going to take over their family business etc.
even if the news coverage is accurate, the description is still not really a spoilt brat.......
and if she has a salary, having a lv bag is normal..... + HTC is some exotic/ super luxury phone?
damn journalists...
Aiya, nothing wrong if she wants to spend her parents' money or her own to splurge on luxury items.
Nothing to do with us.
Like what people say, she didn't go around telling people to get out of her elite uncaring face. ![]()
she didn't snub off everyone or declare that she wants a $30k ring
Reading the TOC article.... this quote by the reporter pissed me off when she was asked whether she felt that the article was balanced:
“Definitely. I might have left positive material (about Agnes) out due to space constraints, but there was a lot more information on her that wasn’t flattering which I left out too”.
Whiskey tango foxtrot. This was not a simple case of leaving out positive or negative material.
This is a case of leaving out important facts that can change the whole picture (like her taking part-time work), inventing parts that mess it all up (like the part about the girl's friend being 'silly' for not wanting to ask for money) , and taking things out of context (like buying a Chanel bag with her first paycheck).... all to make it sensationalistic.
In the first place.... what was the whole point of the article, anyway? To show that there are spoilt rich brats in Singapore? Even if there are, this girl doesn't seem like one to me.
ST got nothing better to report ah? ![]()

Frankly speaking, this ST article sounds less like objective reporting and more like a STOMP whine where some fella snaps another person's photo in public, tells all sorts of unjustified tall tales about that person, and then invites others to flame that person.
Oh, wait.... STOMP is a subset of ST....

So the reporter was a whiner?
if your parents are rich why not?
Exactly... thats what i thought too. But no.. apparently it doesnt work like that all parents.
It's just bad journalism, especially in terms of human interest stories...

Ironic it seems. If they are rich they would'nt be staying at 4 room flat at outskirt of Singapore. It more of a case where parents wants to provide the best or whatever they can for their offsprings. Good or bad not for outsider to decide.
