Not Depot Rd but Dempsey Rd (did I get the names of the rds correctly?)
Maybe Singapore cant help it if living creatures want to swim across to the island but it has to find a way to stop people from going to JB in the same manner.

Whale beached in 1994,anyone remembers that?

So pasar malam now bluff one izzit? Yes, I remember the real ones when you mentioned about the pressure lamp a picture came into my mind....A lady trying to bargain for a good buy when the lights suddenly went dim, 'Wait ar ' and then the seller started to pump his lamp...

Marine Parade?
Sorry not Marine Parade.....I meant East Coast Park
last time, really night market.. these days, they put up the thing there for 2 weeks and the stalls are there throughout the day and night ![]()
the lamps are kinda scary actually.. i remember how those guys light the thing by setting a little cloth thing on fire then frantically pumping the heck out of it until it glowed white hot...
It was the Saturday night fever of the 60s you can find them all over the island, people could make a living doing just that without paying any rental /space fee and for security reasons sure got Ang Chia on standby.
and the "tae gu lai liao!!" and all running for it? ![]()

Is this what you refer :
The Environment in Asia Pacific Harbours - Prof Chou Loke Ming reports "A 3.75m female false killer whale (Pseudorca crassidens), appeared trapped for a week within Tuas Bay, a large man-made bay, in January 1994. After refusing attempts to guide it out of the bay, its carcass was found outside the bay with body injuries."

I dont know whether it was at Tuas or East Coast...But I remember very clearly it was in 1994 so this should be the one. I remember the whale was trapped there for a week or so with newspaper providing daily updates.
Would appreciate if more info is provided.
