No I am proud of my passport.
People who think Singapore is part of China are the ones who should be embarassed of themselves.
while people have mistaken about China and Singapore, how well do we know the world?
some Singaporeans knowledge of the world is shamefully lacking
Both parties should be embarassed of themselves
TS will like (to wear) this T-shirt when departuring Changi.....

I feel ashamed when I go countries like Japan, Taiwan or Europe.
They have the impression - they dun explicitly tell you - that we are very conservative(a nicer word) or barbaric(a more condescending word).
I don't have alot of overseas frens, but I do have some; I know them from World of Warcraft(a online game). The truth is that most do not have good impression of us - Singaporean. Similar to us, we do not have good impression of China people either.
I think u need to go out abit more.
Most foreigners I've met told me they have heard good things about Singapore/love the country.
People in World of Warcraft mostly just stay at home. THE END. What good impression do you expect them to have?

I really think this thread should be renamed.
Anyway I will reply in response to that statement as quoted above.
I just came back from the Yeosu Expo 2012, where pretty much every country in the world had its pavilion or exhibition space at the Expo. While the theme of the Expo was about water (and water conservation / saving / or whatever you call it) and the Koreans wanted to show off their supposed excellent water retention abilities, the three countries with the highest number of visitors to their pavilions were the Russian Federation, the United States of America, and Singapore.
The queue for the Singapore Pavilion was more than an hour long! Fortunately, as a Singapore Passport holder I breezed through the priority queue. ![]()
But the point I want to make here is that at the Yeosu Expo, tiny Singapore could compare with the mighty two superpowers in terms of visitors. The Singapore "brand" is very, very well respected out there. While I can't speak much about the perception of Singapore and Singaporeans in America, Australia and Africa, I'm pretty darn sure the Singapore "brand value" is quite high in North-East Asia. As I said earlier, Singapore is viewed as a post-colonial success story — a global city without natural resources but built through sheer manpower and FDI itself.
For all that, I give STB (Singapore Tourism Board) the due credit, though personally I f**king hate that organisation. ![]()

Yup, you missed the point of Fryderyk's post.
TS should know that Singapore has good stature in the eyes of the world despite being smaller than a pi sai.
Why keep telling me stuff related to Singapore material success? I am well aware of such things; although it tend to be exaggerated by Singaporean and my social studies books. Since I was a little child, my father read economic books; business management books; world news to me like bedtime stories. I have been to many major cities ard the world. I am well-aware of those things. In south-east asia, I do agree, we are highly regarded. In north-east asia, except China, I couldn't agree.
My qns specifically focused on human right issues: Are we respectable in that area? Don't you feel embarrassed that our country has possibly the highest execution rate? Don't you feel embarrassed our country caned criminal for minor offences such as overstaying, vandalism, etc.? Don't you feel think our media are too tightly regulated? Don't you think we lack freedom of speech? Don't you think our trade union is too weak?
My real concerns are our capital punishment and corporal punishment. You guys should try asking them for opinions about our capital punishment and corporal punishment. If they follow world news, they should be awared of these. As far as my personal experience goes, It's not positive.

You are unawared that this issue was debated in many different countires too.
Do u noe what countries have low crime? Singapore is not the only country that has low crime. Again, it seems many people are simply ignorant.
Singapore is the best! why?? bcuz I dunno how the rest of the world works

Sorry boy, I have lived in more than a handful of countries and I can safely say I am still proud of my passport.
Remember the grass is always greener on the other side.
Do you know in Italy snatch theft cases happen everyday? Do you know in the USA driveby shooting is a common scene?
Answering your question, that is how our country works. Yes, it works a little like having a "stick up the ass" but it's a give and take. Do you want the above scenerio in Italy and USA to happen in Singapore?
Unfortuntately Singaporeans moral standards are not the level of the Swiss yet - where people feel guilty for petty crimes (littering etc). But in terms of our years of nation building, I think it's pretty impressive already.
Under some threads in sgforums, so many ppl insulting PAP, wanting to migrate but can't.....
Under this thread, so many patriotic citizens.![]()

That's why I didn't mention USA or Italy. I dun think they are greener than Sg......
I picked countries like New zealand, Switzerland, Japan or maybe even Hong Kong(i noe it is not a country).
If we are not there yet, then work towards to it. But most Singaporean seem to be satisfied with our moral standard. The only thing they are unhappy about is money and money and money.............
Is this a formation of 1st class economy and 3rd class society?
Sorry but I am not a keyboard warrior.
I love my passport, but I dont like the way PAP is handling some issues.
That's why u dont find me in Singapore.
Don't run away from the point boy - it's not the country, it's just example of the countries I've lived in.
I'm sure it's worse in other countries.

PAP is PAP, Singapore is Singapore. That are not same thing.
PAP is banana party. Singapore is not banana.

It's the "me versus other Singaporeans" mentality at work again... typical. What makes you think that people like yourself are rare? If there's another thing about Singapore that I do not like, it's delusions of superiority like this.
Every country has its skeletons, including those you mentioned, it's just that you don't know them intimately. Every society has an aspect its people are ashamed of. If everyone thinks like you no one would dare show off their passport.
please dont relate patriotism to anti-PAP sentiments
PAP =/= Singapore
if you have dubious politicians running the country, life is onerous
outsiders will doubt your sincerity in your dealings
