A 34-year-old man was arrested on Friday at 11.30pm in connection with the double murders at Kovan, police said in a statement on Saturday morning.
"The arrest of the suspect was possible through the close collaboration between the Singapore Police Force and the Royal Malaysian Police," the statement read. "The SPF would like to thank the RMP for their unwavering support and assistance in this case."
Mr Tan Boon Sin, 67, was found dead at his home in Hillside Drive on Wednesday. His eldest son, Mr Tan Chee Heong, 42, was found dead about a kilometre away outside Kovan MRT station, after being dragged by a car.
Both men suffered slash wounds to their necks, while the getaway car was found abandoned in Eunos a day later.
More details are expected at a police press conference due later on Saturday.

Suspect is 34 year old Rahmat Iskandar a police SSSgt from Bedok Police Div HQ
wa police do one?
Well, at least clarice starling and him had something in common, they were on the side of the law.
On a serious note, our police force do deserve commendation. Especially liked the fact that the police commissioner penned out an official statement to address the public as soon as they cracked it.
It seems like the standard bu|| to most, but it was appropriately worded and timed release.
I agreed with ditzy on the swiftness and clarity of information released by the SPF for this case.
Nothing to be ashamed of as all human do err even though if he is a man of uniform.
Better than some who were MIA during the heat of real crisis and appeared later to provide confusing and conflicting information.
When there is finger pointing and moment of glory, they appeared and react immediately.

An officer of his calbre is a plus factor for the Police Force!!
He's the pride of Bedok North
The initial refusal of the police to name/describe or give any further information of the suspect was a clue as to the identity of the suspect. They already knew quite early on whom they were looking for and by not asking the public for assistance in that regard was a clue.
Normally they would give a description of the suspect, at least his race, attire etc and thye would never say there is no further risk to public safety like they did if they didnt know he had fled.
And kudos to RMP for arresting him. Dont think RMP tidak boleh, want or dont want only.
Read from ST that last year, the family reported theft and the suspect went investigating before the case was passed on to another officer who was working on a few similar cases.
Maybe that's how he was familiar with the house.
But really wonder how he was related to the two victims, other than that. If not, how did he enter the house? I guess it will be revealed in tomorrow's papers.
He could have entered under the pretense of a follow up investigation.
But the strange thing is why the elder victim went to get items from his safety deposit box prior to returning home?
