I am new to this forum but have been following the saga of Ho Yeow San and CHC intensively.
My explanation to those who think that Singaporeans like to bash up our own singers is that I don't think other Singapore singers get bashed up quite as much as HYS. I don't see many negative threads on Sun Yanzi or Tanya Chua . As a matter of fact, I may speak for may Singaporeans that most of us are proud of our gals doing so well overseas.
The reason for the magnitude of backlash about HYS is her use of her religion as a springboard to her secular career. Within the Christian circle, there are those who supports her, mostly people from CHC and others who don't, Christians from other churches and former CHC members.
It is interesting to note that existing CHC members have nothing by adulation for CHC. If I may post a couple of questions to any CHC members who may be following this thread:
1. How do you feel about having a link in your church home page to a secular site where one can download wallpaper and view snippets of a church member (who may or may not be a pastor)?
2. Seeing that HYS holds at least 3 major appointments within the church, how or what is she paid?
3. In relation to question 2, above, shouldn't she or the church decide to remove HYS from the various heavy responsibility that she is purported to be holding, now that she is having a singing career?
4. If she is deemed to have an honorific title of Pastor, are the other "pastors" in the leadership of the church, honorific too?
5. Is her title of "Reverend" honorific too? If it is, then it is a great insult to the number of Christian leaders who had put in many years of studies to attain this status. If it is not, then she will be, by default a pastor.
6. Do you know your scripture enough to know when a error is committed? Or are you relying on your church leaders to intepret the Word for you, giving you any excuses that they may think out to justify their cause.
To those who think that HYS bashing is becoming a long drawn, useless ramble, I hope you all understand that it is not about the individual, it is about the challenge of bring out truth from an organisation that is attempting to justify their actions through inept excuses. The stand taken by HYS and CHC is doing nothing but harm to the other reputable Christian bodies.

Majority of the Singapore singers have to go overseas to become popular like Tanya Chua in Taiwan.
Then they're good singer. Before that, they're mediocre singer ? -

God rebukes you!
you can blar all you want..but the work of God still continues. Let HYS's and CHC's fruits tell it all. If God is for them, who can be against them?
Then again, who are we to judge? If this is not about the individual, then what it is about? God?? The fact is this, CHC is growing and also HYS has reached out together with Pst Kong a great number of people around asia in getting them saved into the Kingdom of God.

Scripture tells that there are at least two types of growth in a tree. One is fruit and the other is leaves.
We are not discussing on how much good CHC has done, we are focusing on the act of denial by HYS and the subsequent spin the church has placed to cover up the denial. So please stay focus. -

I do want to state very clearly that I am not saying that CHC is along the lines of the cults I'd just mentioned. I am just drawing a parallel.
I am not at all perturbed by whatever "rebuke" from whatever source anyone would like to pronounce on me. At the end of the day, I like some answers to my questions and anyone can rant all they want, if there are no answers, it shows how hollow the arguments are.

Go then to the side column, I think, under Our Church and follow up with the button on "Staff Details".... HYS has a personal staff of 3 individuals under her office.

One more thing, the following link in a European Conference in Sweden in 2002 has HYS listed as a pastor.

Not true, you have to be a good singer with credibility first, but you can only hit super stardom if you crack the overseas market. Tanya Chua was already known for songs like My colour tv set, bored, etc. The keyword here is Credibility. In the first place what makes you think I want to win. Getting answers is NOT winning, it is a clarification of one's thought process. I will be gladly proven wrong. Otherwise how can I grow and learn??? In your case, you have already made your own decisions, hence you are not open to discussion, but it is perfectly alright with me. I would never use the phrase "God rebuke you". I will use my tongue and the name of the Lord to bless people.
If you can give me the answers to my questions and I am found to be in error, then at least the "God rebuke you" phrase make some sense. My heart tells me I want the truth, because the Holy Scripture states, "and truth will set you free".

I feel that line is too aggressive. I'm not sure if you're a CHC member but the way you talk is quite blesphemous...like why is 'God Bless You' considered using God's name in vain? 'God rebukes you' is definitely using God's name in vain coz' who are you to speak for God!? I'm sure at some time or other, you've lied to someone...should the pastor say to you 'Orr God rebukes you!' or maybe when you were a kid, you stole a candy and your mother goes 'God Rebukes You!' I knew 2 CHC members and the way they used the bible out of context was rather strange...like during exam time, they will send prayer messages out asking God to give them A++ or pray 'God will definitely get us on the Dean's list coz' we are His children'....these are all wrong ways of asking...you don't ever tell God to give you what you want! You ask God to give you what He wants! That's why I'm rather skeptical about CHC's teachings coz' these 2 people are very active members in the church!
Anyway, religion aside...people are not criticising HYS so much because she's a Christian so you don't have to keep quoting the bible. Michael W. Smith is a well-known gospel singer. He even had a couple of songs on the Bilboard Charts! But no one criticises him...why? Coz' he sings well and has the good songs to match it! That's why everyone feels that he deserves it! In HYS' case, no one knows her songs, no one knows her voice, no one knows her face(before the dress incident)..yet she can suddenly become the top selling artiste (even winning Jay Chow!) and suddenly claim that she's gonna be a lead actress in some Hollywood blockbuster...people are skeptical about her claim to success...people do not feel that it is done through the appropriate channels, hence the criticism! Think Juno Mak in the recent Universal HK case... -

And yes, I've never heard anyone using the phrase "God rebukes you" before on another Christian. I'm a Christian myself and isn't Christianity all about spreading faith, hope and love? I've never encountered anyone who says something like that even if I've done something wrong. As brothers and sisters in Christ, our mission is to pray for one another in that we may grow in our relationships with God and become better Christians. We should not let the evil one sow discord amongst ourselves by making such unnecessary statements. I'm sure God would not be pleased if He heard you curse another brother/sister in that manner! As Christians, we should not rebuke one another, but to encourage each other in our walk with God. The Book of James says that we should learn to control our tongue. And yes, we should never use God's name in vain for our own selfish purposes. It wouldn't just be wrong, but it would discredit Christians too. Why else do you think non-Christians have so much to criticise about us all the time? Aren't we supposed to be following Jesus' example in being forgiving and merciful?

I don't want to judge anyone but personally, I do feel that it's a bit strange that a church personality has to resort to such activities to spread God's word. And I don't see how dropping the Pastor tag and appearing in a Hollywood movie is going to convert more non-believers. -

No support for a fellow Singaporean, only want to criticise.
First I wanna say, even if she is singaporean, it doesn't mean we r unpatriotic to singapore when we discuss about her. She is singing and selling albums, but it doesn't mean she is doing us proud either. Does the fact tat she is local means she cannot be discussed and disliked, and all singaporean must suppoort her ? Here I use an extreme example. Anybody knows of Annabelle Chong ? She is singaporean too isn't she ? Just because she is singaporean, shall we all blindly support her ?God rebukes you!

I do see a purpose in this HYS thread... if u add up all the number of people that had view the relevant threads, it had already reached out to about 15000++ which is about the same number of people in CHC church
